Hering`s Materia Medica: Abies-n


     Black Spruce. Coniferæ.

     The Pinus nigra or black spruce of this country.
     Proved by Dr Leaman ; Ohio Medical and Surgical Reporter.

   

MIND. [1] [Abies. n.]Inability to think or study.
Very low-spirited ; melancholy.
   

SENSORIUM. [2] [Abies. n.]Dizziness ; bad feeling in head.
   

INNER HEAD. [3] [Abies. n.]Headache.Terrible distress in head ; generally with some flushing of face. θ Dyspepsia.   

OUTER HEAD. [4] [Abies. n.]Head hot, with flushed cheeks.
   

TEETH AND GUMS. [10] [Abies. n.](OBS :) Scurvy.
   

PALATE AND THROAT. [13] [Abies. n.]Choking sensation in throat.
   

APPETITE, THIRST. DESIRES, AVERSIONS. [14] [Abies. n.]Exceedingly hungry and wakeful at night.
Total loss of appetite in morning ; craving for food noon and night.   

EATING AND DRINKING. [15] [Abies. n.]Pain after a hearty meal.Abstinence from particular food does not >. θ Dyspepsia.
   

HICCOUGH, BELCHING, NAUSEA AND VOMITING. [16] [Abies. n.]Belching.
Acid eructations.
Frequent vomiting of food.
   

SCROBICULUM AND STOMACH. [17] [Abies. n.]Severe pain in stomach after eating.Distressing pain in stomach, extending to left side.Sensation of an undigested hard-boiled egg in stomach. θ Dyspepsia.
Continual distressing constriction just above pit of stomach, as if everything was knotted up, or as if a hard lump of undigested food remained there.

STOOLS AND RECTUM. [20] [Abies. n.]Constipation.   

FEMALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [23] [Abies. n.]Menses did not appear until third month after proving.
   

RESPIRATION. [26] [Abies. n.]Gets out of breath easily.
   

NECK AND BACK. [31] [Abies. n.]Pain in small of back.
   

NERVES. [36] [Abies. n.]Nervousness.
Fatigue.
   

SLEEP. [37] [Abies. n.]Dull and sleepy during day ; restless and wakeful at night.
Wakeful at night with hunger.
Bad dreams.
   

TIME. [38] [Abies. n.]Morning : total loss of appetite.
Noon : craving for food.
Night : hungry ; wakeful and restless.
Day : dull and sleepy.
   

FEVER. [40] [Abies. n.]Alternate heat and cold.
(OBS :) Malarial fevers. [Obs. Used in New York in the Fall of 1877. Abies Nigra is said to be one of the ingredients in "Holman's Fever and Ague Pad."]
Chronic intermittent fever, accompanied by stomachache.Left : pain in stomach extends to side.
   

SENSATIONS. [43] [Abies. n.]As if choking ; of an undigested hard-boiled egg in stomach ; as if everything was knotted up in stomach.
Pain : in stomach after eating ; in small of back.
Aching : in bones.
Rheumatic pain : in bones.
Constriction : above pit of stomach.
   

TISSUES. [44] [Abies. n.]Rheumatic pains and aching in bones.
   

RELATIONS. [48] [Abies. n.]Used in preparation of spruce beer.
Similar to : Nux vom. (pressure as from a stone after a meal) ; Bismuth ; Calc. carb. (like a load after a moderate supper) ; Bryon. (like a stone, worse moving) ; Kali carb. ; Arsen. ; Zincum (as if food lodged in œsophagus) ; Ignat. (food feels as if lying above cardiac orifice) ; Sepia (nightly pressure as from a stone, also after food) ; Agar. (burning after food, followed by pressure as from a foreign body) ; Phosphor. ; Pulsat. (like a stone, early, on awaking) ; Sulphur ; Cinchon. (accompanied by bloating) ; Natr. mur. (sensation of a foreign body sticking in cardiac orifice).
